Good luck with this old skool, you've a hard task ahead of you. My mate has a full wheaten terrier used for drawing and i was thinking of crossing him to a greyhound bitch but the half cross have no foot and won't catch bolted foxes. I would need to breed this litter then breed a pup out of the litter again to get a racey wheaten x and this would take years. Dunno if its worth the hassle

i would have thought they would have been as quick as any other half cross??? i have a greyhound bitch but she isnt too good at the fox game so i wasnt goin to breed from her... others think it doesnt matter whether she can pull foxes or not as long as she's healthy and strong... i'm not sure, i reckon if your after a fox dog then it helps if both parents are capable of fox, does it not?? to be honest i'd aim for a 3/4grey 1/4 wheaten too... i think they make a better all round sort of dog... i get alot of tossers trying to sell pups that are supposed to be this way and that way bred but they dont fit the bill and i'm hard to please

a first cross will take foxes no bother. i would breed my own if i was you. get a real game wheaten stud and put him across your hound bitch.
it would be better if your hound took foxes but how many greyhounds would take a fox single handed?
there is a lot of chancers breeding lurchers who'll tell you that parents are fox dogs but very few do them single handed and regularly.

Whitser, i put some pics up on the running dogs section on thl.. F.A.O Whitser, just a couple of pics of the hounds. A half cross can be a unbelievable draw dog. I have worked with half crosses before and a tricky fox that can play tricks in an open field will give a half cross wheaten problems. I agree with whitser on the greyhound aspect of things, never even heard of a greyhound doin a fox and i don't think it matters as long as you get a hard wheaten. I was always told too much greyhound in a dog is a bad thing as the greyhound is yella as fcuk.... If you need a full wheaten to breed too i know where you'll get a first class one and you could see him work

i used to have a greyhound bitch about 8 or 9 years a go that could have taken foxes well but she was hit by a car and now i kinda measure greyhound bitches to her... i'm thinkin i might take a chance on her because nearly everyone says the same about greyhounds... drawing would only be a small part of what i would use a lurcher for so i would be aiming to breed something more for lamping and coursing... a lad sniper on the THL had a crackin 3/4 bred dog (you can see it in his gallery) and i would be aiming to breed that kind of dog
