Anyone Able to Reach Co. Leitrim?Only I have a pair of Hooded Crows nesting fifty yards from my cottage door! They'll have the b*stards fledged and flying long before I get my hands on my rifle .....

most birds will be moulting at this time of year, are they in a barn or somehting, it would be hard to catch with a harris. would they be too cute for a trap?

Birds in moult? What a bummer!
So would a Hoodie be hard to catch with hawks, mate? Blimey! I thought they caught faster stuff than crows! Oh well .....
No, they're nesting atop a sitka. Range Finder gave us 50 yards dead from my cottage door to the nest. Then they fly over to a big old Ash and land there before dropping into the field, out of sight behind a hedge. Ash is 150 yards from my door. 900 yards is a forested hill. I have these b*stards numbers and, as soon as I have my rifle, I'll be making those shots. .22 Hornet at 150 yards? Smash them to pieces!
Trapping them? Winter job, mate. 'Stock's getting out and about now. And they are extremely tricky buggers to trap. But I have my ways and have got results before.

will depend on what type of hawk you use. the crows will be into the next county by the time you get within 100 yards of them. you need to ambush them, using a building or car

I'm afraid it's all just become a bit academic, lads! My mate was round today and happened to mention he had his rimmy in the motor .....
Rest is history. And so is one of the crows. I'm saving the other one for the 150 yard head shot, when I get my own (Hornet) rifle
