Got rolf down to 1lb 5.8 on wedensday, so decided to take him out for a small hunt that evening. was amazed to see the amount of rabbits this year, must had seen 50+ in the first field sitting out. had a flight at one, and the other 49 soon made it to cover lol. tried a little set at top of field, resulting in two flights, one of flights he stooped at in the long gras, but missed, the rabbit got up , but he wasnt fit enough to get back on terms with it. the other flight was just a quick 5 yards into another hole, grabbed ferret and went to next set. resulted in a underground kill, ferret came out as i started to dig. moved on again. next set was slightly up the ditch, whitchproduced a nice clean bolt, rolf chased it well and connected with it for a few seconds before being kicked off. it was gettign dark so headed back to car, on way back we had a few silly long distance slips at rabbits near cover, but did manage a nice flight at a rabbit from a woodpile, which made it to a set about 10 yards away, with rolf just missing . I was expecting a kill, but it meant i could fly the following evening
So last night me and my mate headed out to the same farm again, but different side of road. walking through first field we seen about 7 or so rabbits go into holes along the ditch, we decided to rest them a bit before ferreting them, crossed a fench into another field, and as we did, 30+ rabbits all ran into a ditch to our right, rolf missed one and went into a tree watching the rest make it to safety (still another half ounce off easy). we went up teh field and done a nice set on the bank, we heard squeeling in the hole, a minute or two later ferret came out and we quickly grabbed him, before he went back to rabbit. crossed another fence and headed to some thistles in middle of the field, nothing. so we headed back down towards the orignal set we seen at the start of the evenig. there was some nice thick thistles alogn the ditch on the way down, so headed towards them. as we walked down a rabbit got up, didnt see it. was just sitting in long grass, anyway it headed downhill and to the ditch, rolf nailed it a few feet from a set. had a little tumble with it, but soon got it under control. first kill of the season , almost fully grown rababit so quite pleased. infact both nights i hardly seen a young one?
and heres a pic of the result

out again today. rolf weighed in at 1lb 5.7oz this morning and set off for the road at 10. was at the farm and in the fields for 11:30 first had a small forest and i had two or three flights, one of which he really deserved, hit it twice, but didnt hold. then headed of to do a nice open ground set, only to find it had be filled in by the farmer. so we walked the bottom of that field, were there was some thick thistles. managed two good flights out of it, but again, no catch. so crossed the road to a feild that held about 5 ground sets. done the first four and not a rbabit, but the last one looks alot more promising. it was a small 4 holer, covered in nettles. a few minutes had gone, and i heard a rabbit in the hole, sounded like we were going to have a dog. but a minute later rolf bated towards the set, i didnt see anything, but i had to trust him. right enough he ruse up and stooped into the nettles, out runs the rabbit to nearest set, rolf gets back up and nails it about 10 yards away. not the best of footing, but soon climbed up its back and had both feet to the head by the time i got there. another 3/4 grown rabbit. fed up rolf, and it turned out the ferret had killed in the set. dug to ferret, but rabbit moved on. fed rolf and headed back to car.

only a short one this time lol. yesterday finnished college early, so headed home, bird and ferrets in car and headed to hutnign ground. rolf was 1lb 5.4 so i was sure he would fly well. it was farely windy, so went to a farm that has a little forest and plenty of hills, to get blockage from the wind, so long as it was blowing in the direction i hoped. so headed out from the car to a small field that has a brillaint set which usually produces good long bolts. it was very windy, but it wasnt to bad at the wet, as there forest broke it. ferret down, and nothing! this set always produces. it didnt look to active either, kinda got me worried about the rabbit population on this farm for this year . went up the hill and over, to a nice groudn set a good 100 yards from any cover. ferret down, rabbit shows, rolf is off, but after hearing his bells it headed back to the set, but it wasnt fast enough, rolf had it a few feet from the hole. only a half grown one, and out for 15 minutes, but he diffently needed it after having to take a rabbit off him on wedensday night. whiel feeding him up i took a few pcis of the land seeing as it was nice a sunny.
