With the current situation across the water as regards Hunting ,surely now is the time to set the wheels in motion in Ireland to do something constructive before it is to late to safeguard the future of hunting here .What does everyone else think ,what can be done?

I d be in the same frame of mind ,but on our own we can do nothing except reply to letters in papers etc.,SACS Scottsh Association for Country Sports under Ian Clarke are currently on the offensive working hard behind the scenes to secure the future of hunting in Ireland this org.covers all of Ireland and under Ian Clarke anything that can be done will be,for £30 per year your covered for 5 milliion insurance covering all animal sports from strong dog weight pulling to falconry terrier work etc.If you live in the North who do you vote for Martin McGuiness said its time it was banned and the DUP Jim Wells is currently hosting LACS meetings being an active member himself.I dont know of anyone maybe someone can clarify the political parties positions but the 2 main parties ,at the last check where both opposed, meanwhile Stephen Philpot USPCA has briefed the PSNI on his biased account of dog sport and had access to the police helicopter last season following lads out hunting with hounds, theyre not even doing that in England where there is a law.

PIP if you have a link to SACS maybe you would be good enough to put it up ,maybe we could compile a list of polititons that are against hunting then people would know where they stand ,even write to them to see there views, also a bit further down the road maybe we could organise a march or something as i believe you do the marching before hunting is banned and not after.

There-in lies an issue.
SACS, CAI, MFHI and the NARGC, all working together or at odds with one another?
Frankly I'd never heard of SACS until I saw it posted on THL, and indeed had no idea it proposed to cover all of Ireland as well.
I doubt the SACS has or will have any impact here, and by that I mean the republic. The CAI is well established, has regional reps and is pretty active. MFHI works with the CAI.
The NARGC does more for shooters than any other organisation, and has a true talent in the form of one Mr.Des Crofton.
It tips it's hat to other forms of hunting, and has some sort of handshake agreement with the CAI in terms of not stepping on each others toes.
So far, so cosy.
Truth be told, we have a problem, and it's not a multiplicity of representative organisations. It's a problem of attitude and, ultimately, unity.
Not all fox hunters like shooting, and not all shooters like fox hunting. To go even further, I’d feel pretty safe in saying that the majority of anglers and coarse fishermen do not care for hunting or shooting.
The anti lobby has, essentially, one defining goal. That is the cessation of any activity that results in the death, injury or harassment of any living creature.
They can attack each facet of country sports piece-meal, fox hunting first, shooting next, and fishing thereafter. They are aided in this by our lack of solidarity with each other and our respective sports.
Can you imagine the clout we would have if all hunters, shooters and anglers supported each other? It’d make any organisation, or politician for that matter, think twice about taking away our sport.

Macnas; My hat's off to ye, mate. That has to be The Best Post of it's kind on this subject I've ever read!
Time was, people would have printed that little speech off as a Pamphlet. It'd then be handed out where ever those effected could be reached. Then there'd be a revolution!
Succint. Erudite. Truth!

It's incredible what a naggin of Paddys will do for my thought process.
