As i will soon be needing a new lamp just wondering what everybody thinks is the best type of lamp and battery pack for general use without breaking the bank or your back.

I was well advised about the clulite sort. you get a lamp and 7amp battery for 95 quid, or if you phone lcusons, they should do you seconds for 70quid and free p+p this will give u a good 2 to 3 hours lamping. this may not suit some, but if thats all you can hack before getting up for work the next day its great lol. it also comes with a clip on the side of the battery to hold the lamp, brilliant for climbing fenches.

I might have a look at a clulite Sean ,the last lamp i had was a Lightforce good beam rubbish wiring and connections

just make sure you get a jack plug connection, 2 of my mates use ciggy lighter connection and constantly knock off

aye, you just screw off the old rim, and replace it with a hinged rim easy as that lol. if you look at the pic, that has a hinged rim. tho filters arent up to much. the tape is just for extra waterproofing

i had a laserlite for donkeys and then upgraded to the blaser... both are extremely reliable and just recently i bought a new clulite shootalite... i havent it tried it out yet but i'm definatley lookin forward to it... it cost £60 and came with a handle and scope mount... the only fault i have with it is the flood to spot is'nt as tight as i would like and the switch is the gun stock one so it takes a bit of getting used to but all in all i think it will do the trick... it fits in my pocket too

im using a lightforce blitz 240 and a 20aph battery pack great piece of kit i have to say,ive also a blitz 140 and 8aph battery for the small stuff

Personally, I quite agree with the 'flood control'. I can get far better with either of my MagLite torches, to be honest with ye. But it's still lethal at a measured 100 yards, I'll say that for it.
One thing I've found; I have mine strictly for the rifle, but I soon realised I was in trouble because of my style of (would be) shooting and the grounds I cover. I.e I like to 'Patrol' a wider area, rather than lay down by a hedge and make funny noises.
Now obviously my technique then involves much sweeping of fields, often over the tops of low hedges. You try doing that with a rifle mounted lamp! Work it out; It means 'Aiming' the bloody rifle in all directions! Apart from the fact that it gets bloody tiring on the arms, I can assure ye, I also feel it's just not the image I'd like to give to any innocent observer.
My first attempted solution then was to break the rifle (I have a breach loader - NEF Handi) so I could point the lamp without the sinister look. But then I, quite frankly, got embarressed by my own self image as I hefted this broken gun over the hedges! Bit like holding a Dog over ye head for a look. I just felt silly and it was a bit awkward anyway.
So, what I do now is just leave my rifle shouldered and carry the lamp in my hand / pocket. Having a look as I come to each new field. My great master plan is that, upon spotting the right target, I hope to screw the lamp onto my scope. Refind the target with the rifle. Blow the bugger away. I only wish I could say that with an air of confidance I can actually see it swiftly turning into a farce as I hunker down in the dark, fiddling, swearing and dropping the bloody lamp whilst the target gets bored of waiting and f*cks off!
Got any better suggestions, please?! And, while we're about it: That f*cking battery's crucifying my right shoulder! Rifle and shoulder strap cutting into the exact same spot? I'm thinking of hiring a Pole to hold the sodding lamp for me!

the lightforce lance 140 and the 8amp battery is super light with the lap being able to be mounted on a rifle and light battery over the shoulder,cant remember the price tho think it was round 200 yoyos

Ross, from the moment I started becoming interested in lamps again I've constantly read the one thing pertaining to " LightForce " kit; Ye'd better be good with ye fingers and a soldering iron!
So many people just seem to brush aside the fact that ye buy the damn thing. Go out with it. It f*cks up. Ye come home early and take it apart and jiggle with some bits ~ they say ~ and pop a bit of tape on here. A new and proper connection on there. Do something with that lead and, Hey! Ye have something ye can work with.

No. I went out a few times with my mate, Dean O'. We took his Light Farce and his better Light Farce. Granted, niether broke down on us. But then, Dean's extremely clever with his hands and tools and such and has the sort of mind that likes to strip things down, just to see how they work. I wouldn't put it past him to have already encountered the inherrent problems and fixed them in his stride.
But what Both lamps did do was send us home early by simply fizzling out Maybe that's why he decided to give the CluLite 'ShooterLite' a spin? He was mightily impressed! (And this, remember, a guy who already owned Two models of Light Farce). He fetched it up here one night and I too was impressed to hell. I'd found my rifle lamp
Just like the LF ye mention, it's scope mountable. Battery comes with a shoulder strap. It also clearly shows me my top gate ~ a range finder measured 100 yards away from my bottom gate. It's never yet let me down.
But, as discussed above; The damn battery kills my skinny shoulder and I'd Really like a belt pouch for that. And, yes; That beam could screw down tighter

My worst fears were indeed well founded. I'm back to pointing my rifle at the fields
I was out one night, lamp in hand, when I found a target. And everything, from that moment onwards, went to complete rat shit for me! Adrenaline kicked in. Hands became rubber. Could no more fit that damn lamp on the rifle than get a marshmallow into a piggy bank.
If, by some miracle, I'd have managed that then I'd still have ended up with a beam pointing god knows where. It was totally f*cking hopeless!
And, yes; The target simply finished what he was doing. Shrugged at me and f*cked off up the field to dissapear into a ditch.
Guys: Don't Ever kid yeselves that ye'll be able to gun mount a Shootalite as and when ye spot a target. It's just not about to happen
