how old is your pup before you start teaching it the basics ??

Personally, I start teaching a pup 'basics' from the moment I get it home. I never expect one to become house trained till fifteen weeks, but it can start learning good manners before then. Simple things like its teeth Never touch my skin. That my saying it's name in a certain way means it'll enjoy coming to me more than it was enjoying what ever else it was doing. Learning to live with a collar round its neck. Then a lead on that collar.
Before ye know it, ye have them sitting on command and the world's ye oyster from there. All that while it's still every bit and very recognisably a " Pup ".
Stick a pup in a kennel and then go drag it out when it's pushing a year old and expect it to do anything ye want it to ....? Not my way.
