tragic

i read DS's post on THL about the wee jack russell gettin hit with a car and thought it was feckin terrible... anywho, next day i was at work and recieved a call to say that my sister reversed over 'magic', the new pup... i happen to be close by any way so i turned the lorry round and flew home... to be honest i didnt think he was goin to make it but i got dad to take him to the vet and after heavy antibiotics and morphin i think he will recover ok... he has come along nicely in just a few days and hopefully he will make a full recovery, fingers crossed anyway... he seems to have suffered a thump to the head but there doesnt seem to be any damage to the brain but he does have trouble breathing at the minute and has to be fed all his food liquidized!!!

here he is

after his stay at the vets he has lost tremendous weight, vet says its because of the shock and heavy sedation... he is starting to slowly put weight on again but it will take time and he's very shakey on his feet i hope its just because of the morphin and nothing to do with his brain??
Sean

sorry to here that mate, hope he had a full recovery

good luck mate hope he makes a quick recovery

Breaks my heart just to see and think about the poor little mite lapping up his wet grub, mate. But the very fact that he is wanting something to eat's a good sign, obviously.

How the f*ck long did the white coat have him, to lose him so much weight, man? Ye've had him back home half a week by now? And he was " Reversed over "? Over or Into? Ye say he  " seems to have suffered a thump to the head. " What did the white coat say? Just what were ye Paying that f*kka for? Put the Dog on a drip???

Sorry. I'm just not happy with this. At All.

Let's communicate.
E.mc

If he's up and about OS he should be fine.
oldskool

he had him 3 days... all i know ditch is he was feedin him through a tube and the weight loss is apparently from the shock and doses of morphin administered... to be fair the vet didnt do such a bad job... the sister doesnt know what happened when she reversed all she heard was a yelp and a few moments later the pups nose was bleeding and his face began to swell... if you seen him when i took him in ditch you would have seen the difference when he came out... the vet said that if the swelling continued to climb his face and head that he may start to take fits and thats where things would really go pear shaped so the swelling was his main concern...  his weight is improving since the morphin has wore off and so is his attitude so thats a plus... his breathing is starting to improve as well because his nose was blocked silly... all in all i'm quietly confident as he improves rapidly daily

Ps, Bock your a gentleman, i'm hopin things will be ok...
DitchShitter

Ah. Cool. So, sounds of it he took one from Tyson and it just rattled his head so hard everything in there rearranged itself? Damn, that has to be one lucky pup, mate! Trauma to the nut enough to do that sort of shit, it's a miracle, never mind a simple wonder, that he wasn't brain damaged, blinded or just plain outright dead on the spot!

I don't know enough about motors to even begin to try and visualise what part struck him and where. Or maybe even something just knocked him to the ground with force and he struck his nut on that?

Either way, great to hear he's clearing up

Good also to see ye haven't let my faith in ye down. I've long since had you marked as one of the good guys. There's enough out there would have shrugged and finished the job on a pup ~ always another one available to replace one that might cause inconveniance, as they'd see it.

Kudos, mate
oldskool

swelling has started again so its back to the vet today... an x-ray is in order and hopefully it will be nothin serious...
DitchShitter

Swelling Again????   Olds; I'm bracing myself for the worst here, mate. I mean, let's not mince words and try to kid eachother. It sounds f*cking dire

I'll check back here through the evening now.

had a pup have similar, car reversing and he ran at the tyre barking, rolled straight over him,had a bit of a fit after it,but gave him some NSAID's(non aspirin) and he was fine again in a few days.
nothing was broken, rare for a pup to break smaller bones as they aren't fully calcified yet and still very supple.if he's breathing is normal and he doesn't have a temp. i'd just keep an eye on him yet and keep him as rested as you can.

got back in from the vets and he has admininstered another injection of long lasting anti-biotic and mild pain killer that should see him improve by tomorrow... if there is no change then an x-ray will be on the cards for friday... he wreckons there could be a fracture in his snout that is causing the swelling but it should knit together on its own.. lol i've had a few of those myself through talking when i should have been listening lol... so i know things like that will take time.. the swelling is a concern and so is his balance.. it has improved but i thought he would have been better on his feet by now... that being said, he's eatin like a feckin horse and i always thought that was a good sign...

i'll fill ye's in again on friday
DitchShitter

Steady as he goes then, eh mate? Squashed or belted muzzle seems to fit, doesn't it? Best thing is, if that's where the damage occurred then his balance is absolutely nothing to be worried about. Eyes, ears, nose and throat? All interconnected, aren't they?

And our ears effect our balance

Putting this more simply; Smash me on the nose and that effects my ears too. Thus I show a marked tendency to lose my balance and fall over!

Well, if he's still packing his grub away? As a wise old country Doctor once said: " If ye can eat well, shit well and sleep well? There's likely not a lot wrong with ye! "

magic's form deteroirated on wednesday evening folks... i'm gutted because he was doin so well and i thought we had the problem licked but his breathing dropped nearly completely when i got up early tis mornin and the swelling around his eyes had nearly doubled to the point where he was blind... i think he was struggling that hard to breath that he was so exhausted he just messed his bed and lay in in all night... the injection on tuesday didnt seem to have any improving affects on him so when we went to the vet today and he advised that putting him to sleep was the kindest thing... his final analysis was that it was a brain injury that would leave the pup partially blind and unable to balance... what can i say, i took his advice and let him go ahead...

havent told the sister yet... and feck i'm not lookin forward to it either
Sean

really sorry to hear that mate
oldskool

i cant understand it mate... when he was goin so well the day before and then just take such a tumble over night.. it was fuckin shock to be truthful... i remeber a cavalier spaniel we had when we were kids... he was hit with a car as well and when we brought him back from the vets he was well and truly on the mend so much so that he was having a roll in the garden... then next day dad got up and he was dead in his basket...  i mean, HOW THE FECK????
moleman

sorry 2 hear about your pup mate
