WHIPPET X BEDLINGTON

HI ALL IM AFTER SOME INFO ON THIS CROSS ANY LADS ON HERE WORK THEM?
kevin_donegal

No but i have a straight 19 inch beddy thats built like one. You need patience to bring them on and you cant be heavy handed with them. But when they start they work hard. They can be stubborn and are not  eager to please but they take the "job" seriously. Despite that there a nice dog to have about the house as there clean and are quite inside. But if they dont get exercise/work forget it. Well thats my experience anyway.

whats the breeding of your bedlington Kevin, i kept them for many years myself, i had four generations of them here at one stage.

i bred a few litters of the first cross and 3/4 whippet beddys, first crosses were very good daytime hunters though can be prone to deaf you out and hunt on, a few would also open up on the chase. all in all great wee dogs for a daytime mooch, i prefer a straight whippet though.

Hi,
Well i did end up getting a whippet/beddy and its an absolutely fantastic pup. I feel very lucky to be the owner of such an intelligent well built pup.
should make 22".

all the best

cheers Kevin

the ones i kept would have been of a different type, rarely did they go over the 15 inch mark, heres a snap of my first one 14 3/4 inches and mother to all mine her sire was George Newcombe's Blue. she was mating to the whippet beside her to breed a few good workers , both dogs took fox.

is the 3/4 litter being bred in Ireland? the broken coated ones are stunner's, half the litter will be indistinguishable from pure bred whippets, which to me is what they probably are.

good luck with your pup
all the best

Hi Lawrence,
You had a beddy from george newcombes legendary dogs...wow.
thanks for the info on the x cross, yes the litter is being bred in ireland but im not sure if there are any going.

Did you know that there is a good forum on working beddies here:

Oh,
Did you say that you preferred a first cross for daytime mooching over the 3/4 breds? If so why?

I know what you mean about being deaf...they are torture sometimes.

One thing im starting to realize about my beddy is that it seems to have poor eyesight. I mean for a terrier even. Did you ever notice that with any of yours?

both crosses will do the job fine Kevin, i recommend you choose a pup with a bit of hair on it , that way you can be sure of some bedlington influence.

yes was lucky enough to have a couple out of george's blue dog, he was huge 19" but produced stuff that was smaller.

wasn't looking for a pup but wouldn't mind a bit of info on the laguna whippet, is that the sire of the pups ? i've whippet pups due in just under a fortnight, the sire of those would have afair amount of laguna behind him.

i look in on the beddy forum now and again, would you know of anyone breeding them over here ? i know there was a fisherman in clogherhead kept them but i've lost his address.
kevin_donegal

thats interesting that the dog blue was 19 inches.
i sent you a pm
