Havent had a chance this season to do any write ups on the forum. juggling 2 jobs and a part time course at college at the moment and any free time i get i try and get out hawking lol. So headed out yesterday morning with kev to a new farm we had never down before. realy nice crisp cold morning. arrived at the farm at about 11 said hello to the farmer and hit the first field. the farmers dog followed us and started coursing rabbits and jumping for rolf as we were walking over the first field, so had to send poor kev back up to get the dog locked up. then the proper hutnign could start. first set we done was a farely big set at the bottom of a hedge row, 2 rabbits bolted about 10 feet down to the next set, which doesnt produce any decent chances, but one ranh acrosses the fieild heading for a hedge on the far side. rolf missed it once, as couldnt get back onto it running up hill. next set produced a cracking slip, with the rabbit running into the ladies garden, no kill but fun to watch. we decided to walk a bit of the farm to scout it out, and try and find some handy sets in thinner hedgerows. the first rbabit of the day came not long after, as we walked to the edge of a hill, there was a steep drop, a small road, then dropped further into another hill. as we went over the ridge, one starting running towards a hole alogn the lane, but rolf lifted and got a good stoop on it. when then walked up the hedge on down this field, found a real actvie lookign set, kev sat at one end keepign an eye on the ferret, while i sat at the other ready to slip. 4 bolted from the set, 3 of which i didnt even see, but ran right past kev, not even noticing him. the other, rolf had a quick dashing flight, but no luck. a few more sets later, came the best flight of the season so far.the rabbit bolted at a angle across the field to a hedge further down the hill, rolf crashed in after it, but the rabbit came out the far side of the far hedge, and decided to run to the other hedge at the bottom of the field, rolf got up and chased again, no kill, but fantasic flight. the next set produced a kill, the rabbit ran in the same direction as the one previous, but we we in a better position and rolf got to it a little sooner. walked on up that hedge, but no good looking sets, so headed down the far side of the hill, to see about 4 rabbits run into the hedge to our left. we found a few grounds sets at the bottom of the field, so thigns were lookign good. tried 2, but both empty, then tried another, third time lucky, rolf chased it down hill and it ran into a patch of nettles, which held a set, rolf lifted up high, i thought it had went into the set, but rolf must have just lost sight of it, as he lifted, he folded teh wings and stooped on the third rabbit of the day. decided to feed him up and clal it a day on the hatrick. 3 rabbits to the bird, not one to the ferrets, and plenty of great flights on some new permission. cant complain!

A few pics taken by kev (borntohunt)
