bro inlaw nabbed his first fox on friday night... he was all chuffed!!

i think it was round 50yards or so and he done well to get it as it just wouldnt stop fidgeting about and then it was makin its way to the hedge so he had to peg it... he got it in the ribs and it went about 20 yards and rolled over

the rifle is a remington .22magnum with ballistic tip rounds and a bushnell 3-9 x 40 scope

Those Remmi's are a bloody nice rifle, aren't they? I was very close to getting their synthetic .22 Mag myself.

Personally, I've gone right off Moderators. I've seen through them. Like, ok, they Do cut down the Bang, a little. But then, let's get f*cking real here a minute. What are ye firing? .22LR? Makes about as much noise as a twig breaking! It's a non issue.

.22 Mag? Never actually heard one go off. But I can probably about imagine it. It'll go something like " Bang! ". But is it seriously going to be a problem?

My own, .22 Hornet and even my mates .17 HMR? They make a f*ck of a bang. And, when ye get up around the .223, 243? Especially with the .243, we Are talking serious audio disturbance! That's when you and the rest of the neighbourhood need hearing protection. Maybe those bad boys could use toning down a bit?

But Any of the .22 calibres? Let's get real. People fire 12 bores without a care or a thought. Why kid ourselves our little .22's, fired over permissioned land, in a perfectly legal manner are really going to bother Anyone? Ye Don't Need a Moderator.

And, further, adding an unnecessary moderator is simply adding shit to ye kit. 1. It's extra weight to lug around. 2. It's a longer barrel to watch out for. 3. That longer barrel is more likely to touch that gate post as ye pass through. 4. So much as 'Touching' the damn thing is likely to jolt a mod microscopically out of alignment and completely f*ck ye zero for the next shot. 5. It's an un asked for alteration to what should, in the first place, be a precision piece of engineering.

And what for? " Because all my mates have them. "

Well, I'm going for a .223. I'll use it legally and properly. Once in a while, there may be a terrific bang in the night. People will get over it. They've heard me making bang noises before now. It's not really an issue. Why encumber myself to rectify it?

That's my view.

my mate brought out his .308 the other night and i have to say its the most deafening fecking thing i've ever heard go off in the dead of night.... the thing is the boom was so much so that once we called in his targets if he missed the flippin boom just seem to stun them into "what the feck" mode and stand staring at us as the sound seems to echoe around, i dont honestly think they knew what was up... we only had 2 that bothered to casually jog off with a glance over the shoulder... but when i miss they really do scamper lol!!! i think at the end of the day i think you might be right and the hassle of getting a mod wont really be worth it
